Note that this student instructional license is for use ONLY in an instructional context by undergraduate students and should not be used in a research context, e.g., by students working in research labs. Students can visit this Mathworks portal to download Matlab and associated tools: Matlab is available to UC Davis undergraduate (NOT graduate) students for use in an instructional (class) context at no cost. Purchasing: If you DO want to purchase a network or standalone license, please submit a ticket. Pricing: The pricing negotiated by the campus for Matlab is $180 for either type of license. This option is good for people who frequently work disconnected from the Internet, such as on computers holding protected data sets, frequent travelers, or people who do remote field work. A standalone license can only be installed on one computer, and it does not require a network connection to run Matlab. Standalone: The other licensing option is for a standalone license. The only disadvantage to the network license option is that it requires that your computer have a network connection whenever you run Matlab (e.g., you will not be able to run Matlab if you don't have Internet connectivity). The network license option is good for research labs and for people who use multiple computers. For instance, if you have a research lab with 10 computers but you only have 3 researchers who use Matlab at the same time, you can install Matlab on all the computers, but you only need to purchase 3 licenses. With this licensing option, you can install Matlab on as many computers as you want, but you only need to purchase as many licenses as you will use at one time. Network: The Mathworks offers a concurrent network licensing option for Matlab. Under this agreement, there are two licensing options: For free online and telephone support with the MathWorks Support team, or call 50 from 8:30 AM – 8:00 PM EST, Monday – Friday. The campus has an annual volume purchase agreement for Matlab. For assistance, contact the OIT HelpDesk at 86. Where can I get support? OIT offers Full Support for MATLAB. Faculty can use Teaching with MATLAB Onramp to get up to speed on using MATLAB online resources. There are also many useful educational resources at the Mathworks Web Portal. How can I learn it? For UTK, MATLAB workshops can be accessed in Linkedin Learning. People with extreme computational requirements can also run MATLAB batch jobs on ISAAC. There is no simultaneous user limit for its use. For UTK, MATLAB is also available on OIT’s server, and on the computers in the OIT public computer labs. You can run MATLAB onlinewhich allows you access MATLAB from any web browser, and includes use of MATLAB drive. The author runs Matlab on both Mac OS-X and Linux platforms for much. You need to use your organization email address in your MathWorks Account to link to the license. The download and installation instructions are on the OIT software download site. A reduced-price student version is available which is sufficient for much audio work. There are two ways to access MATLAB Online: If you are a university student or faculty member, or work at a research institute, you most likely have access to the full version through a campus-wide license. Where can I run it? The MATLAB products are available at no additional charge to faculty, staff and students at UTK, UTHSC, and UTC for installation on university-owned and personally-owned Windows, Mac, and Linux computers. Those downloading software agree to permitted uses put forth in the site license agreement. Commercial use of any MATLAB product is prohibited under the terms of the site license agreement. Use that benefits outside organizations requires the purchase of a commercial license. MATLAB may not be used for commercial research and is not available to to visiting scholars, consultants, or contractors. What can I use it for? Enrolled students, faculty, and staff can use MATLAB for university-related teaching and academic research purposes. Simulink and the toolboxes require MATLAB. The toolboxes are collections of functions for solving particular classes of problems, such as signal processing, image processing, control systems, curve fitting, etc. The UT system-wide Total Academic Headcount (TAH) license includes MATLAB, Simulink, and most of the toolboxes listed on the company product page. What is it? MATLAB and Simulink are computational software environments used to perform a variety of computational tasks such as in engineering, science, mathematics, statistics and finance. MATLAB Pricing Whether you want to use MATLAB for personal use, commercial use, or use in teaching and academic research, theres a MATLAB license that meets your needs.
